A device model is a basic model for a device that producers use to create a pre-installed license and, optionally, define a pre-installed product. A pre-installed license can define a set of capabilities, as defined in the pre-installed product’s features, within the maximum limits for the device series. The device model with that particular pre-installed license represents a purchasable configuration for a device. If a device model has a certain capability, that capability can be increased to what is defined as the maximum in the series.
Tip • A pre-defined device model, FLX_CLIENT, is provided for all producers. Those producers who do not require the additional complexity of defining multiple device series and device models can leverage the FLX_CLIENT instead of creating their own device models.
You can create a device model from the Administer menu.
To create a device model
1. | Click Administer > Create Device Model. The Producer Portal opens the Create Device Model page. |
2. | For Model Name, type a unique identifier for the device model. |

9. | Optionally, select the Default check box. If you select the check box, the current device model becomes the default device model for all new devices. |
10. | Optionally, add a pre-installed product to the device model. |
A pre-installed product defines a set of built-in features for devices based on this device model. (A device model with no pre-installed product results in devices with no built-in features. In this case, all features would be additional features.) To add a pre-installed product
a. | Click Add Pre-installed Product. The Add Pre-installed Product page opens in a pop-up window. |
b. | On the Add Pre-installed Product page, click By Product. The Select Product page opens in another pop-up window. The Select Product page lists products with features permitted by the restrictions imposed (if any) by the device model’s device series. |
c. | On the Select Product page, click the option for the pre-installed product and then click OK. The Select Product window closes and the product name and version of the selected product are shown on the Add Pre-installed Product page. |
d. | On the Add Pre-installed Product page, specify a license model, license model attributes (optional), and expiration terms. |
