Trusted Storage License Activation Advanced Topics
Short code (keyboard) activation is intended for customers who do not have the network connection resources needed for typical activation transactions, and must activate a product manually, such as over the telephone. This is typically done for machines not connected to a network. Short code activation of a local license server is also supported.
License rights are loaded from an Activation Specification Record (ASR) file using an activation transaction that requires a specific code, called a short code because it is not the prohibitively long code used in typical activations. Using a short code ASR, a customer provides a short request code and receives a short response code, over the telephone, that can be typed into the application interface. For more information, see Short Code Activations .
Manual activation is useful when there is no Internet connectivity directly on the host. The activation request is generated and written to a file by a FlexNet Publisher activation utility running on the machine where the license is to be activated, then the request is emailed to the publisher. The publisher uses FlexNet Operations to generate the response XML file. Alternatively, the customer can use the End-User Portal to submit and receive the response XML file.
