Repairing a License

A customer may require support for a license key. A support request for a certificate license is processed as a repair, and involves the change of a license parameter other than a host ID. For more information, see Repairing a License .

Rehosting a License

Moving a license from one machine to another is called rehosting. Batch rehosting is moving groups of licenses from one server to others by:

Redistributing – re-allocating licenses for a group of products among various license servers to change the license count of products on different servers
Transferring – moving all of an account’s licenses from one host to another, usually when a host machine crashes and the licenses on it must be moved to a new machine

Upgrading a License

Changing a license for one version of a product to a license for an improved version of the product is called upgrading. For example, a customer can upgrade a license for Paint 4.0 to one for Paint 5.1. For more information, see Upgrade, Upsell, or Renew a Fulfillment.

Upselling a License

Changing a license for one product to a license for another product with more capabilities is called upselling. For example, a customer who has a license for AntiMalware can be upsold to the Total PC Protection package, which includes AntiSpam and ParentalControl in addition to AntiMalware. Renewing a License

Extending an expiring license is called renewing a license. For example, a customer whose software license expires after one year can renew it for another year. For more information, see Upgrade, Upsell, or Renew a Fulfillment.

Correcting a Producer Error

Generating an Emergency License

An emergency license is a short term license generated for a customer who cannot use the unexpired license. For example, while a customer’s main computer is being upgraded or repaired, the product must be used temporarily on another computer. For more information, see Generating an Emergency License .

Generating a Stop-Gap License

A stop-gap license is a short term license generated for a customer whose expired license renewal is being processed. For more information, see Generating a Stop Gap License .
