Making a Device Obsolete

You can make an active device obsolete from its default view for a device or server page. When a device is made obsolete, its licenses are unmapped and returned to the pool, and it becomes unable to acquire new licenses.

Note:The Obsolete Device and Obsolete Server options only appear in the Actions menu of a View Device or View Server page for users with roles specifically granted the End-User Portal permission Obsolete Devices/Servers.

Important Notes When Making a Device Obsolete

Keep the following in mind before setting a device or server to Obsolete:

Obsolete status is permanent. Once a device is marked as obsolete, it cannot be reactivated.
Making an auto-provisioned license server that has entitlements mapped for metered features obsolete will remove all licenses mapped to the server. However, this is not recommended, because future line items will not be mapped automatically to the auto-provisioned license server.

To make a device obsolete:

1. Click Action > Obsolete Device (or Obsolete Server). The Obsolete Device (or Obsolete Server) page opens.
2. The End-User Portal warns that this process is irreversible and asks you to confirm before changing the current device’s status to OBSOLETE.
3. Click OK.

The End-User Portal changes the status of the device to OBSOLETE and shows the list of devices.
