Short Code Activation

Trusted activations are normally done programmatically as transactions between a client or server activation utility and the FlexNet Operations server. Usually, the activation utility generates a request that is submitted programmatically and the FlexNet Operations server generates a response that is used to complete the activation.

However, if a customer’s environment does not support communication with the FlexNet Operations server, FlexNet Operations can generate a short code activation specification record (ASR) that can be used to generate an activation request. Short code activations are typically used in activations performed over the phone.

A producer uses FlexNet Operations to generate a short code ASR and bundles it with the product.
A FlexNet Licensing activation utility running on the machine where the license will be activated uses the short code ASR bundled with the product to generate a short request code.
The short request code is sent to the producer and loaded into FlexNet Operations to generate a short response code.
The response code is saved to a file; the file is sent to the customer and is used by the FlexNet Licensing activation utility to process the activation response and activate the license.

To activate a line item through short code activation:

1. On the List Entitlements page, select a trusted line item to activate and click Action > Short code activation.
2. On the Short Code Activation page, enter the short request code and activation ID for the item.
3. Click Next. The short response code is generated and displayed.
4. Save the short response code to a file.
5. Send the file to the customer with instructions for using the activation utility to process the response and activate the license.
