Upgrading Projects Created with InstallShield Professional

You can upgrade projects that were created using InstallShield Professional. When you are using InstallShield 2021 and you open an installation project that was created with InstallShield Professional, your project is automatically upgraded. This enables you to immediately work with your project in InstallShield 2021.

Projects that were created using InstallShield Professional were composed of several .ini files referenced by an .ipr file. In InstallShield 2021, your installation project is one file—an .ism file.

First Step: Opening Your Installation Project

To open an installation project created in InstallShield Professional:

Open InstallShield.

On the File menu, click Open. The Open dialog box opens.

Select the InstallShield Professional project file (.ipr) that you would like to open.

4.

Click Open.

Your project opens in InstallShield, and the extension changes from .ipr to .ism. A backup of your original .ipr project is saved as ProjectName.ipr.bak in the same folder.

After you upgrade your installation project, you can use the views, menus, wizards, and other parts of the InstallShield user interface to modify your project settings.

Note:In InstallShield 2021, support files are linked to a subfolder of the project folder; in InstallShield (previously called InstallShield Professional), support files were physically copied to a subfolder of the project folder.
