About Elastic Access
Instead of entitlement line items related to specific software products, producers sell metered tokens to their customers, and the entitlement line items specify a count of metered tokens purchased. Customers can access products, features, services, or other offerings and are charged metered tokens from the line item. They do not require entitlement line items for any specific product or capability.
Producers associate each of their offerings with a metered token “price”, or rate. A rate—that is, the number of metered tokens that a producer charges a customer for using an offering—is specified in a “price list” referred to as a rate table.
The producer can see—and allow the customer to see—via data in the Data Warehouse, how many tokens have been charged for which items over given periods of time so that they can track their spending, assign costs within their organization, and plan future sales and purchases. This data is available within a minute or so of each transaction, so that use can be tracked continually in an immediate way.
