About Short Code Activations

A short code activation is one intended for customers who do not have the network connection resources needed for typical activation transactions, and therefore must activate a product manually, such as over the telephone.

Using the short code ASR, a customer can provide a short request code and receive a short response code (to be typed into the application interface, for example) over the telephone, without the prohibitively long codes used in typical activations.

You can use either pre-loaded Web Reg Keys or dynamic Web Reg Keys and use the Web Reg Key as Activation ID while generating the short code. If you use dynamic Web Reg Keys, make sure to enable the Load web reg keys as part of activation for trusted type bulk entitlements? property (found in System > Configure > Trusted Storage).

Unlike local trial licenses, licenses activated with short code activation can be rehosted, returned, or repaired like licenses activated using secure transactions.

Note:The amount of information transmitted in short code transactions is much less extensive than ordinary programmatic activations. For example, only part of the UMN is passed. This reduces the security of short code transactions.
