Filter Hierarchy
Filters apply in a hierarchical model: First, the data gets filtered by the global filters, then by dashboard filters, and then the panel filters refine it even further.
• | Global Filters are at the top of the filter hierarchy. A global filter applies to all the panels on all tabs on all dashboards (dashboards are essentially the pages available from the Analytics menu). You define a Global filter in the Filter panel by selecting the All dashboards option. |
• | Dashboard Filters apply to all of the panels on all tabs within that dashboard. You define a Dashboard filter in the Filter panel by selecting the Current dashboards option. |
• | Panel Filters are applied directly to the charts. Their scope is local, meaning they only apply to the chart where they were defined. You define a Panel filter by clicking the Filter icon above a chart. |
The filter panel is interactive and dynamically shows only the filters that apply to the selected component. For instance, if you have both Dashboard and Global filters defined on one dashboard, and you click on another dashboard, the Dashboard filters will be hidden from view, as they don’t apply to this dashboard.
Each filter only applies to the selected dataset. For example, a Dashboard filter Last Modified Date After 2024-01-01 defined for the Entitlements dataset will only apply to the Renewals: Entitlement Expiration by Month and Fulfillment: Total vs. Available Quantity Per Product charts, which are based on entitlement data. It will not affect the Top Feature Requests by Served Devices and Monthly Feature Consumption Trend charts, which are based on the Served Device dataset.
