License Server Usage: Metered

In a metered licensing model, users are charged for the actual use of the software. Usage can either be capped (usage cannot exceed a predefined limit) or uncapped with pay-for-overage (usage is tracked and reported, but there are no limits to usage; consumption above the pre-defined limit is allowed and customers are charged for the overage).

The License Server Usage report for Metered licenses includes the following charts and tables.

Metered—Most Active Account Identifiers (Total Number of Events)

This chart shows the accounts with the highest number of transactions for metered licenses. A transaction, or licensing event, is any activity that involves the interaction between a license server and a client, such as requesting, granting, or denying a license.

The x-axis displays the number of events that were recorded for each account in the last 6 months. Drill down into an account to see transactions for a specific account.

Most Active Cloud Server Instances (Event Count) for Metered Licenses

This chart shows the Cloud Licensing Service (CLS) instances that handled the highest number of requests for features mapped to metered licenses.

Top Features

The Top Features chart shows the most popular features requested by clients from CLS instances. This chart helps producers answer questions like the following:

Which features do users access most often or least often?
Which accounts access certain features most often or least often?

These insights help producers understand how different user groups interact with their software and thus can take more informed decisions around user segmentation strategies.

All Events Listing for Metered Licenses

Shows usage data of metered licenses on your license servers. The table lists each occurrence where a served client has communicated with a CLS instance.

Note:Some of the terminology in this table might not be familiar for all users. The view is meant to support Dynamic Monetization, metered and concurrent licensing events and therefore uses more generic terms:

“ENTITLED_ARTICLES” refers to products.
“ITEM” refers to features.
“ITEM_VERSION” refers to the feature version.
