Configuring a Scheduled Notification
A Scheduled Notification is helpful for use cases where you need periodic evaluation using aggregation logic, such as monitoring business health checks or tracking when entitlement copies fall below a certain threshold, so support teams can be alerted to take action.
You create notifications on the Conditional Notifications Dashboard page (Analytics > Conditional Notifications).
Creating a scheduled notification includes the following steps, each described in detail in the following sections:
Tip:The Notification Wizard appears in the left pane. The wizard guides you through the steps in the configuration process and allows you to move directly to any step by clicking its name in the list.
Note:All changes are saved automatically as you build your conditional notification.
Choose the Scheduled Notification Type
To create your scheduled notification, choose your notification type
1.
Click Analytics > Conditional Notifications) and click +Create Notification. |
2.
In the Notification Name field, type a meaningful name for the notification. |
3.
Select Scheduled Notification. |
Continue with the steps in Configure the Schedule.
Configure the Schedule
The schedule determines when and how often the conditions for the notification are evaluated.
To configure the schedule
1.
On the Configure Schedule page, specify when and how often the notification should run. |
Note:All times are in UTC.
2.
Select Run once and disable after first execution if the notification should only run once. |
Continue with the steps in Define Metrics.
Define Metrics
You use metrics to specify the parameters for the dataset on which a scheduled notification is based. Use conditions to narrow down the dataset to the data that you want to target.
For example, you could create the following metric that counts the number of remaining entitlement copies:
Example: This metric could be used to monitor the number of available entitlements. The metric is evaluated on a schedule. When the count of remaining entitlements falls below a certain threshold (specified in the next step, see Configure Trigger Conditions ), a notification is sent to the support team so they can take appropriate action.
To define metrics for a scheduled notification
2.
Enter a name and a description (optional) for the metric. |
3.
Under Aggregation Configuration, select a function for numeric values from the dropdown menu: Count, Sum, Average, Minimum, Maximum. |
4.
In the left pane, under Schema, select a field and drag it into the Field area (under Aggregation Configuration). |
Tip:Use the search box to locate desired fields.
5.
Use the following optional steps to refine your metric: |
•
Add conditions using the +Condition button. |
•
Multiple conditions can be grouped using AND/OR logic. |
•
Add a nested condition using the +AND/OR Group button. |
•
Click the red x to remove a condition. |
Any saved metrics are added to the Metrics tab, where they are available for future notifications:
Continue with the steps in Configure Trigger Conditions .
Configure Trigger Conditions
Define the conditions that will trigger the notification.
A condition is a combination of a metric that is evaluated against another value (this can be a fixed value or a metric).
To configure trigger conditions
1.
The Available Metrics section lists the metrics that you can use to define a trigger condition. Drag and drop a metric into the Conditions area. |
Tip:Use the search box to locate desired metrics.
2.
For each metric, select an operator from the dropdown and specify a value in the green box. For information on available operators, see Configuring a New Data Notification. |
3.
Use the following optional steps to define more complex trigger conditions: |
•
Add conditions using the +Condition button. |
•
Multiple conditions can be grouped using AND/OR logic. |
•
Add a nested condition using the +AND/OR Group button. |
•
Click the red x to remove a condition. |
Continue with the steps in Select Notification Data .
Select Notification Data
Specify the information that should be included in the notification. The selected data will be included in CSV files sent to the selected notification destination(s).
To select notification data
1.
The Schema section lists the available fields. Drag and drop the fields that should be included in the notification into the area on the SELECT - Fields to Include tab. |
Tip:Use the search box to locate desired fields.
Continue with the steps in Configure the Notification Destination .
Configure the Notification Destination
Specify where to send the notification. You must configure at least one destination, but you can enable all available options—email, webhook, and SFTP—simultaneously for a single alert.
To configure a notification destination
1.
